Robert M. Beren Academy (RMBA) is a Modern Orthodox Jewish day school committed to academic excellence, Jewish values, and nurturing the next generation of Jewish leaders. RMBA is seeking enthusiastic, dedicated, and knowledgeable Judaic Studies at the Upper School level. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage students in the rich history, traditions, texts, and practices of Judaism in a vibrant, academically rigorous environment. The successful candidate will inspire students to explore Jewish heritage, deepen their understanding of Jewish texts, and integrate Jewish values into their daily lives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Curriculum Design & Instruction:
○ Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons for Upper School students (Grades 9-12) on a variety of topics within Judaic Studies, including but not limited to: Tanakh (Bible), Jewish History, Jewish Philosophy, Jewish Ethics, and Talmud.
○ Foster critical thinking and discussion about Jewish texts, traditions, and values.
○ Integrate modern pedagogical techniques to encourage active learning and student engagement.
○Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
○ Incorporate technology and digital resources into lessons where appropriate.
• Classroom Management:
○ Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes learning, curiosity, and personal growth.
○ Maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
• Student Assessment & Feedback:
○ Assess student progress regularly through tests, projects, essays, and class participation.
○ Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to help them achieve academic success.
○ Maintain clear and open communication with students and parents regarding academic performance.
• Advisory Role:
○ Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, providing mentorship, guidance, and support in both academic and personal matters.
○ Facilitate connections between students and the broader school community.
• Professional Development:
○ Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in education and Judaic studies.
○ Collaborate with colleagues in the Judaic Studies department and across the school to enhance the overall academic program.
• Community Engagement:
○ Actively contribute to the school's Jewish life and community events, including religious holidays, Shabbat services, and other extracurricular activities.
○ Engage with parents and the broader community to foster a strong connection to the school’s Jewish mission.
Qualifications:
• Education:
○ Bachelor’s degree in Judaic Studies, Jewish Education, Religious Studies, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience:
○ Proven experience teaching Judaic Studies or related subjects at the high school level is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of Jewish texts, including but not limited to Tanakh, Talmud, Jewish Law, and Jewish history.
Knowledge of and experience with differentiated instruction techniques and modern pedagogical approaches.
Familiarity with the integration of technology in the classroom is a plus.
